MOSKVICH-2140 restyling

Moskvich-2021
Restyling
The car of the USSR of the 80s, produced in the amount of 1 million units, turned out to be moderately stylish, recognizable, with a sporty character and at some point advanced for its time. That is why this model unconditionally deserves a restyling.
Original model 1980 & concept 2021
The flight of the designer's thought contributed to the preservation of many original elements both in the exterior and in the interior of the concept, despite a significant increase in body dimensions. In comparison with the original: by 200mm. - in width, by 200mm. - in length, by 50mm. - in height.
EXTERIOR
At the front there is a massive oblong "notch", into which the radiator grille and LED optics, stylized as the original model, fit in. Bottom - four longitudinal air intakes, next to which are direction indicators with dividing section DRL.
Oversized rectangular air intakes are integrated into the lower part of the bumper, complementing the integrity of the style.
In the rear part, similarly to the front end, an oblong "depression" in black tones, with integrated rear diode optics is repeated, below there is a reversing light and a "1500" nameplate. Even lower is the powerful exhaust system, which clearly doesn't fit the meaning "1500" value, although it looks like a single whole.
Approaching the side of the car, the longitudinal smooth lines carried over from the original, covering the door handles and the exhaust ventilation grill above the rear wheel, which is slightly reduced to combine style. The shape of the rear doors has also been transferred, sliding down to the wing arch, which, in turn, has undergone a change, taking on a rounded shape.
INTERIOR
The modest forms of interior decoration, of those times, just needed to be improved in the spirit of 2021, but so that a potential buyer, in addition to innovations in design, could find similarities with its predecessor. After all, a car with a history inspires confidence.
The predecessors were two models of the AZLK plant at once - the Moskvich-2140 and the Moskvich-2140 SL. The most basic elements of the interior were taken from both models to make them recognizable and original.
These include:
- two-spoke steering wheel with built-in multifunction buttons;
- analog-digital instrument cluster with a speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature indicator, oil pressure indicator, battery charge / discharge indicator, fuel level indicator, as well as with data output from a GPS navigator and on-board computer;
- rectangular instrument panel with built-in instrument cluster, engine start button, regulator for multimedia system, touch screen;
- central air vents with a hazard warning flasher button;
- climate control unit in the lower part of the central panel with additional multifunction buttons;
- instead of a cigarette lighter - wireless charging, three USB inputs and a 12V socket;
- side air vents, which were absent in the original, were inscribed in the curved shape of the panel;
- side lights for interior lighting in the form of three diode strips, which are located at the bottom of the airflow deflectors;
- central tunnel with multimedia control keys and lighting control unit;
- the handle for opening the saloon door, the structural part of which was transferred from the “SL” model, the shape of the mechanism is very unusual and rarest among cars (a similar design of the handle can be seen in the Pagani Huayra);
- door armrest with built-in speaker system.

These are probably all the design innovations of this concept and, as we see, there are quite a few of them.

But not everyone knows, not everyone remembers that in 1979, in parallel with the AZLK-2140 SL, they planned to launch an improved model AZLK-2140 SR (sport-rally) into the series. The aforementioned concept was taken as a basis, only slightly changing individual elements, both externally and internally.
EXTERIOR
Distinctive features of the “SR” model from the regular version:
- front and rear optics;
- radiator grille and design of the oblong "depression" of the rear, into which the modified rear lights are inscribed;
- front and rear bumpers with more aggressive shapes and diffusers, door sills;
- exhaust system of a different shape;
- reduced ground clearance;
- added styling elements in the form of a stylish black stripe along the bottom of the doors with the "SR" logo, black side mirrors, door handles and bonnet;
- specially shaped light-alloy wheels contoured in body color.
All of these changes are aimed at giving the vehicle more visual sportiness.
Interior
Moving on to the interior space, I would like to note that the color scheme inherent in the body is also transferred to the interior of the car. Such a bright blue hue can be considered the main distinctive element of the interior, and after that you can peer into individual details, trying to notice the differences, namely:
- start-stop button, painted in red, hinting at sportiness;
- a combination of devices in the spirit of "muscle car";
- central air deflectors of a modified shape;
- climate control control unit with an additional regulator;
- rounded dashboard;
- narrowed side air vents;
- reshaped side lights for interior lighting, which also serve as a "slider" for the deflector.

An excellent option for "rides" in sport mode with 5 passengers on board ..)

On this, the flight of the author's design thought was achieved. Of course, this is no longer the cramped and "sullen hard worker" on which, at one time, they transported sacks of potatoes and grain.

The model is clearly not devoid of recognition, identity and style. And the creation of the “SR” version gives an idea of the past sports career of the model, because it was not for nothing that in the Soviet era, this brand held a leading position in high-speed races and earned international recognition in its class, having entered the world automotive history.
